AQUA CREST HAS ITS FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday night in Indianapolis, Rhi faced a tough field of 100 freestylers including olympian, Lindsey Benko.  Seeded first going into finals, Rhi showed a lot of maturity and stuck to her race taking the first 50 out smooth in a 27.4. Turning 6th at wall, she poured on the speed while all of the other swimmers began to lose their momentum and charged into the wall to out touch Benko for first place with a time of 55.2 (her second 50 was a 27.7).  After her victory she got to speak to the crowd and say how incredibly happy she was!  Congratulations Rhi!!  You can check out her victory picture at the usswim.org website under the events page.  Go to spring nationals then click on candid photos.

Thursday the battle continued.  Rhi tied for first in the preliminaries.  Assigned to lane 5 two lanes over from Benko in the finals, Rhi stuck to her game plan again smooth through the first 100 going out in 100.6 and at the third 50 touched 6th with Benko out of sight and over 2 seconds ahead.  But then Rhi turned it on again and chased down the field by the 75 and was catching Benko at an incredible pace.  It just fell a little short .  Rhi touched only 5 tenths behind Benko to take home a second place (coming home in 100.5).  Great swimming Rhi!!!!

1/25/03 1ST ANNUAL TSUNAMI BLUE VS. BLACK INTERSQUAD MEET
A GREAT SUCCESS!!!!!

The first annual intersquad meet in Tsuanmi history was close from start to finish.  The toss of the coin decided the coaches for each team.  Scott had Blue, and Holly had Black.  The Blue team line up consisted of: Rhi Jeffrey, Jenny Marsh, Kyle Klein, Tom Reynolds, Heather Robert,Rachael Desantis,Keshia Vazquez, Rachael Mittel, Lindsey  Meeder,

Stevie Lynn,Shawn Warner, Dylan Gallo, Brianna Ritota,Ken Farrington, Taylor Gibson, Stephen Fleishman, and Matt Stoner.  The Black team roster included: Aaron Mittel, Courtney Gallo, Kelly Klein, Katie Marsh, Andrew Meeder, Zeke Zylberberg, Samantha Palaigos, Jenna Gallo, Devin Stoner, Fallon Fitzpatrick, Hunter Smith, Connor Fitzpatrick, Danielle Mannweiller, Becca Hendricks, and Jamie Fleishman.

After the 200 freestyle events both teams were tied.  Blue took over from there leading by 15-25 points throughout the rest of the events.  However, Black stayed close enough to have it come down to the final event: a 250 yd free relay with an 8&under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and a senior swimmer.  The points would be doubled for the winning relay and there would not be any points for second place.  Black had a chance, but they were up against a tough Blue relay team: Shawn, Lindsey, Keshia, Rachael D. and Rhi.  The Black relay swimmers were: Conner, Fallon, Jenna, Andrew, and Aaron.  The teams were tied on the first leg.  Then Blue took a lead, but Andrew wasn't going to go out with a fight.  He split a 24(personal best) to give Aaron a slight lead.  Aaron had his work cut out for him, Rhi was ready to chase him down.  Rhi had an awesome swim, but Aaron held her off to take the victory for the Black team.  Black team won the 1st intersquad meet--who will it be next year?

After an afternoon of racing, the Tsunamis took on another sport-bowling!  The team had a great time just hanging out together away from the pool.

1/17/03 TSUNAMIS FAST AT THE FIRST MEET OF THE SEASON

The Tsunamis traveled north to Jacksonville for their season opener.  After xmas training, it would prove to be a hard task to get back into racing.  However, the Tsunamis excelled to lead the team to an overall 4th place finish, and a girls 3rd place finish.  For inspiration the Tsunamis got to meet Josh Davis, Olympic gold and silver medalist.  Rhi Jeffrey was a senior first place high point award winner.

The 8 & under boys were lead by Connor Fitzpatrick, Shawn Warner, and Matt Stoner. Shawn had some terrific swims taking a third place medal, and "Conan" was the only 8 year old to swim the 500 free, he also turned in life time best times.  Matt also had lifetime best times.  The 8 & under girls were represented by Tatum Fitzpatrick, she too turned in some fast swims.  The 10 & under age group got off to a great start with a first place finish Friday night by Lindsey Meeder in the 500 free.  Fallon Fitzpatrick had a great 2nd place finish in the 50 fly.  Stevie Lynn and Devin Stoner also had lifetime best times.  Hunter Smith swam great, capturing some lifetime best times.  The 11-12's also had a great start of the season with some lifetime best swims.  Jenna Gallo had an awesome 500 and Nick Manouos finished the meet with a lifetime best 1500 competing in the senior category.  Rachael Mittel and Danielle Smith also turned in good in season swims.

Katie Marsh led the 13-14 girls with two first place finishes in the 100 and 200 breastroke. Kirstie Jeffrey swam a fast 3rd place 200 free. Morgan Manousos and Samantha Palaigos both had outstanding 500 free's on Friday night.  Andrew Meeder placed in the top five in most of his events for the 13-14 boys, with solid in season times.  The senior's also had some great swims: Rhi Jefffrey and Jenny Marsh began the meet with some terrific 500's, Heather Robert turned in a lifetime best in the 200 breast, Courtney Gallo and  Kelly Klein swam a lot of distance events and had solid swims.  Speaking of distance, Kyle Klein also finished the meet with a good 1500 despite the 100 degree water temperature!  And Aaron Mittel turned in some super in season times in the 50 & 100 free.

It was great to get out of the area, race some other teams and just have a good time together. We really had a fun time and great swims despite the cold, the lost dinner reservation, and the pungent smell of the indoor chlorine air!  The turn out was great!  We thank all of the families that endured the drive, the air, the long sessions (especially the milers on sun p.m. who had to stay late)!  We appreciate the time and commitment to your swimmers-it is much deserved by the swimmers who continue to commit themselves everyday!
